Wangkun Xu

I am currently a Research Associate at Control and Power Research Group at Imperial College London, working with Dr. Fei Teng under UK - Electric Power Innovation for a Carbon-free Society Center (UK-EPICS)

I received PhD degree at Imperial College London in 2024, focusing on machine learning and optimisation methods for power system operations (Thesis), supervised by Dr. Fei Teng and Dr. Imad M. Jaimoukha. Prior to the PhD, I obtained Master degree in Control Systems (Distinction) at Imperial College London in 2019 supervised by Dr. Imad M. Jaimoukha, and B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (First class honours) at University of Liverpool and Xi-an Jiaotong Liverpool University in 2018, supervised by Dr. Lin Jiang. I also interned at MediaTek research, UK as deep learning research intern in 2024.

I am the recipient of EEE Department Ph.D. Scholarship at Imperial in 2019, William Rathbone Medal at UoL in 2018, and David Inglis Prize at UoL in 2017.

My current research interests include a broad intersection between machine learning, optimisation, and system dynamics, with a focus on efficient and robust power system operation and control under high penetration of renewable.
